Scarlet's Credo:
What's Right With Being Left

"SCARLET" is my Valentine to freedom at a time when dissent is increasingly discouraged. I don't believe we honor freedom by murdering people in other countries so we can force our religion and economic system on them. We honor freedom by lending courage to others to live and speak their personal truth, even when—especially when—it challenges a fascist machinery of politics, power and state religion.

I purposely use the word "liberal" in this Journal's title to reclaim it from the ugly slander cast by an increasingly monopolized, muzzled press. Outside of a political context, the word 'liberal' literally means generous and free. I believe those who aspire to the best liberal ideals are determined to think more broadly, feel more compassionately and act more responsibly for beings, persons and nations outside of themselves and narrow self-interest. Since when did arrogant disregard for what-is-not-me-or-mine become a national virtue?

Take heart and give it.
